Organization Information

ORT has been an integral part of Cleveland's philanthropic landscape with flourishing membership and a long history of activity for nearly 60 years.

A merger of American ORT and Women's America ORT in 2007 has resulted in the Cleveland Region of ORT America, a stronger, more unified organization working to meet the needs of ORT students around the world and continuing a strong tradition of national and international leadership. Robert Sill, former Chairman of the Board of World ORT, along with Al Gray, serve as Honorary Trustees of ORT America. Bart Bookatz, Larry Kadis and Lewis Zipkin are members of the ORT America National Board of Directors. Both Sill and Gray are former national AO presidents.

The Cleveland Region also carries a legacy of innovative programming.

A tradition since 1971, the annual ORT Brunch honoring prominent and distinguished community members is a cornerstone of Cleveland's general campaign. In 1996, Cleveland began a new page in its ORT history with the presentation of the ORT Jurisprudence Award honoring the contributions of members of the legal community.

In 2011, ORT Cleveland began a partnership with Citizens Academy: A Breakthrough School, to support the ORT Lego Robotics curriculum in the Grade 5 math class. This program uses the very same technology and curriculum as ORT schools successfully employ in schools around the world. The local region is pleased to make a difference in our hometown.

Also in 2011, Cleveland completed its financial commitment to the installation of 13 SMART classrooms in the schools of Beit She'an, Israel. SMART Classrooms provide the latest in technology and scientific equipment along with the teacher training and support to use the technology across all disciplines. Evaluation results have shown that students are more motivated to learn and their matriculation scores have surpassed the national average.

Today, the Cleveland Region of ORT America has combined the efforts and initiatives of the men and women in the region to become a united voice in Cleveland Jewish philanthropy in support of ORT schools and programs throughout the world.

Mission Statement:
The Cleveland Region of ORT America is rooted in Jewish heritage and values. The mission of the Cleveland Region is to raise funds to support educational programs that enrich entire communities by teaching marketable skills that empower students of all faiths to attain success and live with dignity
